Old Pettersson lives in a small red house, spends his days chopping wood, doing handicrafts and inventions, fishing and taking care of his chickens. Actually, he has everything he needs to live. But sometimes Pettersson is overcome by loneliness. One day, neighbor Beda Andersson, who warmly takes care of everyone, gives him a little cat so that the old man has a little company. Pettersson names him Findus and lovingly raises him. Happiness is perfect when the little cat begins to talk - a wonderful, seemingly inseparable friendship begins. Neighbor Gustavsson looks at the relationship of the two a little alienated and thinks Pettersson is a weirdo. He himself has completely different problems. His rooster crows and crows and crows. Before the fowl ends up in the cooking pot, rescue comes in the form of Beda Andersson, who, with her huge heart, asks Pettersson to take the animal in. The old man happily agrees. In the henhouse there is great excitement and enthusiasm about the new addition. Only Findus becomes increasingly sad and feels left out, since the rooster not only receives the undivided attention of the chickens, but also that of Pettersson. The little cat fears to lose his best and only friend...
